ABOUT

Kamau Butcher. Lawyer. Organizer. Strategist.

I'm a lawyer, organizer, and strategist supporting liberatory movements. I've led successful decarceral campaigns from the city to the federal level, represented people and groups in launching businesses and nonprofits and negotiating contracts, and supported political education through storytelling, curriculum, and facilitation.

I bring those experiences — educator, attorney, campaign leader — to help organizations, businesses, and creatives build the strategy, structure, and storytelling they need to maximize and sustain their impact.

FAQs

Real questions, real answers

A free 20-minute call. We'll talk through what you're working on, whether we're a fit, and what an engagement could look like. No deck, no intake form — just a conversation.

It depends on scope. After the intro call we send a written proposal with cost, timeline, and deliverables — so you know what you're agreeing to before committing. We hold a small number of sliding-scale and pro bono slots each year for movement organizations.

A consulting practice that includes legal services. Most engagements blend strategy, legal work, and political education. Where formal legal services apply — contracts, incorporation, demand letters — they're delivered by a New York-admitted attorney, and we'll always tell you which parts are privileged.

Not directly. Legal services are NY-only, and we don't take electoral campaign work. We can refer you to movement-aligned attorneys and strategists for both — mention it on the intro call.

That's a normal outcome of an intro call. We'll tell you directly, and where we can, we'll point you to someone better suited. The 20 minutes is for clarity — for both sides.
